What is hospitality?

Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia defines hospitality as "the act or practice of being hospitable, that is, the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers, with liberality and goodwill".

Well, don't you think this definition is spot-on, that we can rightly say, hospitality is EVERYONE's business - that means YOU and ME! You may not want a career in hospitality, but whatever you do, you need to know how to make people feel at home.

The skills you learn in doing a hospitality course are skills for life. It's like driving - you acquire the skills once, and you have it with you wherever you go, whatever you do in life!

In the current climate of jobs that produce products is good to see an industry where values such as courtesy is part of the job description .Hospitality is about being hospitable and ensuring not only customer satisfaction with the product ie food, accommodation etc but with the delivery process as well and this involves a code of laws that binds society together.
Hospitality forces both the staff and the guest to behave in an acceptable and pleasant manner and in accordance with established rules basic to the society where the service is provided. In western society it requires etiquette and social norms of say dining and using forks, knives etc in other culture it requires other implements etc . However what remains constant in all Hospitablity services and the industry is that it be undertaken with ease and manners of the society in which it is delivered.
Agreeable manners i say is what makes hospitality a leader in retaining and improving social behaviour.
